Tuesday, July 14th in New York City

Hello blogsters and blogsterettes,

Everything is copacetic in the beating heart of the Big Apple, if that's not heavily mixing metaphors or smashing similes.

We got up even earlier than yesterday to travel down to the Southernmost tip of Manhattan to Battery Park. We walked up to 50th Street and 8th Ave to grab the Red Line 1 Train (Subway) that goes all the way down past the One World Trade Tower that we went to yesterday and went straight to the end of the line at Ferry Station and Battery Park. We got our tickets for the Statue of Liberty Cruise and Tour and hopped right on and headed out into the harbour. Cloudy and choppy water made for a rough ride.

Looking back at the NYC Skyline as we ride out to the island.

NYC Skyline from Liberty Island. Note One World Trade Center Tower that Ross and I got to the top of yesterday. The skies a little bit clearer today but still a far ways from perfect.

Another 63 year old tourist with the NYC Skyline in the background.

The Lovely Lady Freedom on Liberty Island.

Liberty is situated on the remnants of Fort Wood, a derelict Army Base unused since the War of 1812. Fort Wood was in it's perimeter, an 11 pointed star.

Anyway, the trip to The Statue of Liberty was fun, and also went pretty smoothly. I worried about not getting there on time but the Red Line 1 subway train was perfect, getting us there quickly and the signage was fairly clear and we got through all the levels of security reasonably well. The level of security is HIGH. Same with the Freedom Tower aka One World Trade Center Tower. We have to pass through security similar to International Flights at Airports. Take all your stuff out of your packets , all devices, anything metal, all belts off and or out and put them in plastic bins and walk through a metal detector with just your clothes on. Ross was annoyed by this but I mean there is a terrorist threat. It only adds 5 minutes to the passing through. I'm OK with it.

We got back to the hotel eventually, and Ross was feeling his head cold and decided to have a little nap so he could recover and we would try to get Broadway Tickets again, down at the  TKTS counters down at Times Square.

I decided I would travel subway line B up on the West side of Central Park to 81st Street to visit the American Museum of Natural History. The AMNH is the hugest building and 5 stories high.
You can easily get lost (like I did. I had to ask a security guard "can you please tell me the simplest way to exit the museum? PLEASE??!!)

Anyway it was fun. I love dinosaurs.

This was a bloody big dinosaur, let me tell you!!

There was a huge crown at the AMNH; I had to line up with 200 people in a drizzling rain outside the museum, then when I got inside, I had to join one of those Disneyland style winding lines for about 400 people just to pay for entrance into the museum. Took me almost an hour just to get past the admission counter.

I wandered through the museum, huge as it was, and got lost and still saw lots of facinating stuff.

A mega Mammoth. Kool! SuperKool!

This is the back of the Museum, where the security guard directed me to exit. This was at 77 street and I entered at 81st street. I had to walk back to 81st St. to the Subway Station and ride the B back to 50th Street and 8th Ave. (Quite near our hotel which is at 48th Street and 8th Ave. approximately).

After I got home, Ross was just waking up from his nap and was feeling better. We went down to TKTS at Times Square and got tickets for "A Gentleman's Guide To Love and Murder".This was at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which is a very old theatre, at 219 W. 48th Street. Remember our hotel is at 319 W 48th Street. Talk about very convenient.

We then went to a Thai Restaurant amazingly, just across the street on 48th from the theatre.

Ross wants to know how few people want to see him eating. I have told him that his eating and food photos are very popular, can you blogsters and blogettes support me in this ? Email me and or Ross. Ross's email for anyone who hasn't got it is rossatburleigh@gmail.com please email him and tell him you want me to take more photos of his meals.

My selection which was awesome "Chicken Big Bird Nest". Great food at this Thai Restaurant.

After dinner, which was truly excellent, we walked across the street to the Walter Kerr Theatre, We had a long line to get in, which was weird, the other two shows we saw, we just walked straight in.

It was great, a very old (like 1920's built) theatre.

We had seats in the first balcony or Mezzanine. Good seats and the show was so funny, great singing and great story. Lots of fun. We really enjoyed it.

Finally got back home to Room 1417 at The Belevedere and found that the MLB All-Star Game was still in the 4th inning, so we watched the American League beat the National League 6-2. Good Stuff.
Had a couple of Blue Moon beers from a six-pack I had stuck in the fridge and went to bed about 11 p.m. or so.

Tomorrow; i.e. Wednesday, We pack up, check out of the Hotel and get a cab to JFK, where we pick up an Alamo Hire Car at actually, the National Car Rental Company at Building 308 Federal Circle out by the International Airport.

Then we drive to Windsor Locks, Connecticut, where we are scheduled to go out to dinner with my Aunt Cilla and Uncle Carl. Spoke to Uncle Carl on the phone yesterday and he sounded terrific!

Next time, Blogsters and Blogettes!

Ross and Lance
