July 5th in San Francisco

I have a cold. I did get to bed early last night and actually got more than 8 hours of sleep.
Best before that in San Francisco has been about 6 hours so it was a blessed relief and I feel like I could get better soon.

I got up at about 7 a.m. got through the shower and snuck out to Starbucks for my Venti Flat White with two Equals. Checked my emails and checked the world news and the Red Sox results, of course.

Eventually I got back to the room at about 9 a.m. and Ross was just waking. We went to a Jewish Deli/Diner for breakfast that he had spotted the day before. David's Delicatessen on Geary. We found out the meaning of the Jewish word smaltz. We noticed that some meals could have smaltz added to them. The waitress told us that smaltz was hot melted chicken fat that was poured over some meals to produce a rich glaze that enriched the meal. Yummmmmy! We asked her to hold the smaltz on our meals.

Ross had scrambled eggs with onions and locks (Ross says locks are green onion). I had poached eggs with sausage and hash brown.

Ross outside of David's Delicatessen. "Chopped Live Central"!

After breakfast we went down to Market Street and did a little shopping: Ross Department Store "Dress For Less" , then the Levis Store, and the Oakley Store and CB2 (a fancy homewares store) and then the Apple Store where Ross made a booking for the Genius Bar for 6:30 Monday night. His iPhone battery is playing up.

Then we bought tickets and joined the long line for the Powell and Market Cable Car to take us to Fisherman's Wharf.

Powell and Hyde Street Cable Car turning around on the turntable at the corner of Market street and Powell Street. Right across Market Street from the absolutely humongous Westfield Shopping Center.

There's the Westfield Shopping Center entrance in the right background, across Market Street.

We got on the cable car and sat next to two ladies (mother and daughter) from Vancouver. I asked them if they were Australian because the girl had a Quicksilver T-Shirt that said Sunshine Coast, and the mother had a Patagonia Jacket. They had just got into San Francisco and asked for advice on things to do, which we gave them. They seemed very nice.

We got off at Fisherman's Wharf and walked up to Giaradelli Square and checked out the chocolate store and then had lunch at Lori's Diner, which is a 60's style rock n roll diner. I had the Chilli Dog and Ross had a BLAT. (BLT with Avocado). Not bad.

Then we looked around the Wharf a little and caught the F-line Electric Street Trams to The Ferry Building on the Embarcadero. We looked through the Ferry Building briefly as they close early on Sunday. The Ferry Building is like a Farmer's Market, there are a lot of deli style stuff in there.

Boccolone, the shop where the motto was: "Tasty Salted Pig Parts"

After this we got back on the F-Line and rode down to Powell, where we then walked down towards the Cinemas at the Metreon Shopping Center. We decided to go to the new Jurassic World Movie, as the least of evils. I loved it and Ross hated it. Oh well. It did break records for the most money taken over the first week of release, so there must be a lot of people who agreed with me.

Then walked home to The Mark Twain Hotel and got home around 9:30 p.m. It is now 11:08 p.m.
so after I finish this blog I will take my cold meds and get to sleep if possible. Ross checked out a laundry last night so we need to gather up all our soiled laundry and leave them to be ashed, dried and folded by the laundry; about $1.50 per pound of laundry. I have found myself running out of underwear and socks and handkerchiefs. So Laundry is essential.

Bye for now,

Monday tomorrow!

Love

Lance and Ross
