Wayell, we had a very late night on Thursday but I couldn't sleep in ; 5 1/2 hours of sleep
according to my LifeTrak watch. I did my usual and went to Starbucks for blog and emails.
Then went back to Mark Twain and got Ross up and at 'em. We managed to leave the hotel just after 9 a.m.
We were going to have breakfast at Boudin Sourdough Bakery at Fisherman's Wharf so we walked down to Powell and Market and caught the F-Line trams all along Market, then down Embarcadero until you get to Fisherman's Wharf.
Bakery Chefs making Sourdough animals, including what I call a Koala,
Julia emailed to say that she enjoyed the Sourdough Cobb carved out bowl filled with clam chowder.
I love that as well!
How's that Jules?! Yummy!!
Then we looked around Fisherman's Wharf. Ross got dragged into an art gallery by a crazy Peruvian art salesman, who had a very strong personality. Fortunately he could see that Ross was a lot classier than me, so he gave his intense personality free range with Ross and didn't bother me. Lots of art he wanted Ross to buy for excess of $10,000. Don't worry, he said that those prices included tax and shipping to Australia! Well then; that's different.
Here is Ross's new best friend Stefano. In front is a colourful sculpture of the Beatles walking as in their famous Abbey Road photo. This was worth some $40,000-$50,000. Ross was probably very tempted although he told me later he wasn't.
After a good look around Fisherman's Wharf, Ross and I split up because I had to return across the bay to Sausalito, because the restaurant we went to the day before (where we had a wonderful meal) had run my Credit Card for $600 instead of what we owed, which was $60. They told me about the mistake and claimed they had canceled the transaction, but my Commonweath Netbank tells me that it was not canceled. Yikes! The Manager says it often takes a few days more to cancel and he will check and phone me confirmation that it was canceled. I have his business card and will be ringing him every day until this is resolved and maybe go speak to him again, if I have to when we get back to San Francisco on August 7th.
The Ferry Ride over was a good opportunity to take some photos of San Francisco from the bay. Remember the very thick fog yesterday that didn't allow us much photography.
Ross liked the sign at Sabella & LaTorre's restaurant.
Check out the menu. I may need a Crab Sandwich later in the week.
Near Pier 41, where the Blue and Gold Line Ferry left for Sausalito ; a Sea Lion waits for the head and guts of a fisherman's catch.
Looking back at San Francisco from the Ferry heading across the bay to Sausalito to the West.
Note famous Coit Tower and equally famous the Pyramid Skyscraper, the Transamerica Insurance Building.
More Ferry ships in the foreground. The Ferry's were running late because there was a huge increase in Travelers to Sausalito on the 4th of July Weekend, including especially large numbers of hire bike riders, which are very slow to load on and off the Ferrys.
I waited in line 60 minutes at Sausalito to get back to Fisherman's Wharf; and was about an hour late as as a result, for my meeting with Ross. We finally met up at the basement of Union Square Macy's basement, at the corner of Boudin Bakery and Ben & Jerry's Ice Creamery.
More photos from the Ferry:
View of the famous prison Alcatraz. Supposedly, nobody ever escaped from Alcatraz, although 5 prisoners went missing and were presumed to be drowned in the frigid waters surrounding the island.
The view of the Golden Gate Bridge was a lot less foggy than the day before although only one of the two towers could be see clearly.
Well, After we got together at 6 p.m., we canceled our movie plans and Ross dragged me into Crate and Barrel homewares and Ross Department Store. Then I begged him to go out to dinner so we went to New Delhi Indian Restaurant, which according to my Zomato app on the phone, is very highly rated and has the added advantage of being very close to our hotel. Great food and drink; very good service and reasonable price! Yippee!
Then grabbed a bottle of Californian red wine and headed back to the room to write this here blog.
I drank half the bottle and I am very ready for bed.
Bye for now,
Hope you are living vicariously through our travels and the blog isn't too boring. Please email advise if you clearly see where the blog is lacking.
Love; tomorrow is the 4th of July!! Should be massive.
Lance and Ross at the end of Day 3 :)
