Friday July 10th in New York New York

Hello Blogsters,

Ross and I have just returned from the Broadway Musical "It Shoulda Been You". that was playing very near our hotel at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre at 256 West 47th Street. (Our hotel, The Belvedere, is on West 48th Street.) It was fantastic; extremely good.

It is 10:34 p.m. Friday night here. We both had a short nap this afternoon so I should be able to complete this blog tonight before I go to sleep.

I got up early and read my ebook for a while but eventually got through the shower and headed out to Starbucks as usual. I wrote a couple of emails and texted Nat, who was travelling from Prague to Berlin when I reached him. I hope you are taking loads of photos Nat. I am keen to see everything.

After I got back from Starbucks and Ross started to emerge from his cocoon and make some noises, he got ready and we managed to find our way down a convoluted NY Subway path to the corner of Ludlow and East Houston Streets. Leesie I replaced your Katz's Deli Nightgown with a new one.

Just my several large pickles and my hugest Reuben Sandwich in the world at Katz's Deli.
I could only manage to eat half of the sandwich, too bad because it fantastic; the corned beef was so moist and flavorsome.  Katz has lots of weird rules for eating there, which was really strange as well.
There's a tip jar which it is advisable to feed at least a dollar into in front of the guy carving the beef and making your sandwich. The guy before me didn't use it and was very rudely and bluntly treated but the guy was nice to me, after my tip.

Katz is a big place. We were there between their busy breakfast and their busy lunch. There are rules to follow, including taking tickets and no waiter or table service. Still, the food is amazing.

We got semi-lost on the way back from Katz's Deli. It took a fair while and we walked more than I wanted. Finally we got back to the hotel and Ross, who has caught the cold and is a few days behind me with it, needed to take some pills and have a nap. I decided to wander down to Times Square and then have a stroll up 5th Avenue and visit the other Saks On Fifth. Which was located up on 5th Ave. and 50th Street. The photos above and below are from Times Square as I passed through at about 2 p.m.

I stopped in a couple of book stores and got Dad the new Walt Longmire Mystery. Be there with it soon Dad. Eventually I explored The Museum Of Modern Art Shop and also Saks On Fifth Avenue.

The Grand Entrance to Saks On Fifth. I explored in their and went to the Men's section on the 8th and 9th floors. They were having a 60% off some stock and it wasn't very crowded. I had three magnificently dressed salespeople help me with selecting and trying on a broad cloth long sleeve button up shirt from the Ralph Lauren Polo collection. They wasted their time as it was only $39 but they were very nice and we all chatted about Australia.

I headed back to the hotel and found Ross resting and nodding off and on. I took a nap as well and then we got up at about 5:30 or so, in time to go try to get

We were going to try to get half-price show tickets and go out that night so we needed a little rest. At just before 6 we went down to Times Square Show Ticket Office and got the tickets to "It Shouda Been You".

We got the Half-Price tickets so smoothly, you would have thought Ross had choreographed the whole thing. We wandered of at about 6 p.m., and there were no long lines. We moved right up to the counter and asked for the best tickets for "It Shoulda Been You" and they gave us those amazing seats for $70. What a bargoon!!! Well done Ross! My hero.

We then went to the Italian Restaurant right next to our hotel, which was a pleasant surprise as it was very nice and the food was very good.

It was called the Patzeria Restaurant, so I can only assume it is or was owned by a Pat.

I had a green salad followed by a Sausage Calzone. Beautiful with a Blue Moon beer with a wedge of Orange (Take note Barry Scott!)

Ross had some of the Garlic Bread and a Chicken Soup for his cold. Poor duffer. He has got more medicine today and says he feels a little better.

Great tickets for only $70 each. They were in the very first row in front of the left hand part of the stage, almost got run over by the passing actors. If we stood up, we could see into the Orchestra Pit about 10 feet to our right.

That's the stage right in front of Ross. At one point one of the actors ran across in front of the stage and we had to scrunch back to let him through. Amazing seats. The singing and dancing was tremendous as well as the acting and the comedy. It was directed by David Hyde Pierce, who played Fraziers younger brother Niles in the TV Series Frazier.

Anyway, great seats and a great show; one of the highlights of our trip.

The Brooks Atkinson Theatre at 256 West 47th Street.

Well that was our Friday. I have booked and printed off tickets today for the One World Trade Tower Observatory on Monday, and for The Statue of Liberty Crown Tour on Tuesday. Did those down in the business center of the hotel.

I don't know what we will do on the weekend but we had so much fun at the Broadway show we think we may see another one. Maybe American In Paris or On The Town (both Broadway remakes of famous movies with Gene Kelly) and maybe The Book Of Mormon. Don't know yet.

Bye for now Bloggers and Blogettes.

Ross and Lance
